Are they FCC certificated ("type-accepted")? If not, (and, given that they
are user-programmable to operate on Public Service frequencies, they almost
certainly aren't) they may not be legally imported into the US, regardless
of their intended use.
There are stories in the eBay Community area of individuals who have
purchased other, similar, Chinese brand radios, only to have them seized by
Customs.
I'd steer clear of them....

Adrian,
I will be on the last AO-7 pass this evening from 01:53-02:09 hoping you
will fall in my window. You can look for me around 145.952. Your elevation
will be very low if at all.
The best shot I see for us will be Monday morning 15:50-16:01. If you think
you can make this, please let me know. I will again be around 145.952.
Enjoy your trip and look for you on the bird.

Greetings all,
Made it to Kauai yesterday and managed to get on some informal passes.
I plan to operate this morning here in HI on some of the following passes:
HO-68 FM during 18:49 UTC pass

I also plan on several evening passes after 0300 UTC on AO7, FO29, VU52.
Thanks again to the West Coast and XE stations who worked me yesterday
evening.

There was some chatter from the FCC on these WOUXUN units last year.
It's like you said, they were user programmable onto non-ham
frequencies, and that concerned the FCC. There were some
importers/dealers who got in the mess. A little google searching should
turn up some material on this. At a minimum they need part 15
certification to be imported for amateur use.

Hey Dave,
AO-7 will be n Mode A tonight. You won't have a chance to get to him tonight
or Monday - according to what he has told me via email.
I am going to try for Wednesday morning and, because of the significant
stretch of the footprint, hoping that you and everyone else will give us a
chance to make a very brief contact. From here, my window is less than a
minute - but it's do-able. Adrian represents my only chance to get Hawaii in
the log from here, and I'm hopeful I'll have a legitimate chance to do that.
I hope you get him, too. Good luck.
73,
Tim - N3TL

Although the manual has plenty of claims about FCC acceptance, I consider
these things to be "experiments", i.e. it's up to me to ensure that they
comply with the specifications for an amateur-radio transceiver. In 1992
when I cut the red and blue wires in my Alinco DJ-580T HT 30 minutes after I
bought it, the radio was instantly capable of transmitting in all sorts of
bands. All I wanted was operation on the 435-438 MHz satellite frequencies.
I never felt any need to transmit on 162.4, etc.
Yes there is always the possibility that customs may not want you to have
these rigs, but it's not what you have, but what you do with it...
Caveat Emptor...

Although I'm nearly deaf on s-band, I did hear activity just now, about

It is from 3 till 5 April 2010 at the Tarsus Hope Exhibition in Shanghai,

It would be nice to meet some amateur satellite minded people.
I will be at the Shanghai Expo presenting my small transponder device and
promote the amateur satellites at one off the booths.
On Saterday 4 April I will also give a short presentation about satellites
and my small transponder device.
Hope to see you in Shanghai next weekend...

It will nice from our Mexican friends if they can at least pin

De l' interferencia se constat? esta ma?ana sobre 145.880MHZ la frecuencia

ARRL's Antenna Book provide some ideas. I've got a copy of an early edition
and I found instructions for one satellite antenna that I might try to build.

Centroam?rica.

Simple. Go and find a page on WA5VJB "Cheap Yagi" designs, and build a
2m and 70cm one sharing a boom, 90 degrees apart. Build a wee diplexer
(HB9ABX's design is good) if you want to feed both aerials to the same
radio, or just work split.
Dead easy. A good, fun weekend project that you can make out of stuff
you have lying around (or maybe a quick trip to the local DIY store).
