Since the end of the eclipse season, AO-7 has favored mode B almost
exclusively. I use the website http://oscar.dcarr.org/ to keep up to date on
many of the satellites.

It works just fine...I don't know what I did the last time??

I've had the site on my favorites list, and did not recognize it
until it came up...Yes, indeed, full of information....I'll be
mentioning it every once in a while, full of good info.....

Word about it has to be spread!!

All the other AMSAT's in the world, are just fine, just the crap that
AMSAT-NA spreads.....

We had a visit many years ago from Althani Mohamed, ham operator,
that I worked on AO13...He spent several days with us on a round the
world tour, and when he got back to Qatar he established AMSAT-QATAR,
but I guess nothing came of it.....we exchanged e-mails, but then he
just sort of disappeared... A very nice young man, but world
politics experienced a big change, may have had something to do with
it...He lived in Doha, and was one of a chain of, I guess dozens, of
Althani's...

Tnx, agn fer the info....

I'm going to hang in there, things can't get any worse!!

The rest of the world will pull us out!!

Hi!

Later today, I will drive to a spot 50 miles/80km or so
south of downtown Phoenix in Pinal County for a couple of
satellite passes. I will park on the DM32/DM42 grid
boundary (112 degrees West) down there in time for an AO-51
pass immediately followed by an SO-50 pass. Both passes
go to the east of that location, and the footprints will
cover much of North America.

I will be on the AO-51 pass at 0144 UTC, followed by the
SO-50 pass around 0158 UTC. I will switch over to SO-50
once I'm not able to hear or work AO-51, since those two
passes have a slight overlap around 0158-0159 UTC in that
area.

Hello All,

A couple of reports of the latest cubesats.
Yesterday morning's pass (2008/05/16/00:05 UTC) netted
CUTE1.7+APD II - heard, recorded, decoded and sent telemetry
COMPASS-1 - heard three times during CUTE pass, must be on 3 min timer
DO-64 (Delfi) - not heard on either beacon frequency

Today's morning pass (2008/05/16/22:52 UTC) netted
CUTE1.7+APDII - heard
COMPASS-1 - heard
SEEDS - heard in CW mode, recorded and telemetry will be sent
DO-64 - still not heard.

So in around 20 attempts, I have only heard DO-64 twice and able to decode
packets once. It's still turning off before it gets to the southern
hemisphere.

Thank you for the responses. The answer should have been obvious since I
was using my IC-821 to work through AO-40. To make it worse, I have a
couple of other rigs which have the 2M band. The next time we have a V/S
configuration I shall try to overcome my senior moment.

Gene WB2LLP

Hello Gene (and the list),

Your question reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask!

My current S-band antenna is a simple integrated antenna/downconverter with
123 MHz IF, but I plan to install a P3E-ready dish and downconverter on my
crossboom this summer.

My best downconverter is a K5GNA unit with 145 MHz IF. I wonder how it'll
play on mode V/s? Can anyone comment on this?

I also have some more 123 MHz IF units, but their NF is unknown. I'd rather
use my AIDC 3731 from K5GNA, even if it means reduced performance on V/s. I
plan to optimize for HEO operation, but I'd be happy if I could also work
AO-51 in mode V/s.

Thanks for any help or advice!

73,

Kyle

Hi Greg

My web site might be helpful if you mean the AO-40 telemetry sound as
audio sound recordings. See http://www.jj1wtk.jp/
let me know wav files are availble instead mp3s.

Dear All,

17 May 2008

0954 Hours Local or 0154 Hours UTC, 18 degree elevation
SEEDS in Packet mode FM, Object J
http://www.9w2qc.net/amsatbb/seeds17may00954.wav
Sorry about the 57 MB file size as this is a wav file.

1127 Hours Local or 0327 Hours UTC, 19 degree elevation
Cute-1.7 + APDII and COMPASS-1, Object C.
http://www.9w2qc.net/amsatbb/cc17may1127.mp3

Thanks to Mineo-San, JE9PEL for introducing Tunaterm for copying SEEDS
Packets. Could someone please help me on the following as I am still having
problem to copy SEEDS packets.

1. I tried MixW2, TNC emulation, N8VB com port redirector, and Tunaterm.
Tunaterm successfully decodes a bunch of Binary data, but because MixW2 is
emulating a KISS TNC instead of a normal TNC, I am not sure if the data is
accurate.

2. I tried also KPC-3+ in KISS and non-kiss mode directly with Tunaterm.
Unfortunately Tunaterm did not successfully decode any packets except for
one or two.

I believe the SEEDS packet were standard AX.25 1200 baud packets? Could
someone kindly guide me to the right path. Thank you very much in advance.

73,
Sion Chow Q. C.,

I did not hear Delfi-C3 yesterday evening,
and also not this morning (Sat) during the
full sun / max 90 degrees elevation pass.

Btw I also scanned the other 2 mtr downlink freq.

For me this is new, that the sat is totally quiet
during entire passes.

Did anyone hear this sat recently ?

ps: would be nice to have, like for example we
have it for PCSAT and ISS, a realtime website
where the latest received packets are visable.
then I would see eg that last reception was 2
hrs ago over US by K6xyz(for example).

Hi Henk,

Delfi was active with telemetry on two ascending passes last night with some
audio distortions and breaks in-between. Copied and forwarded data to Delft
TU. Will listen again this morning.

Hope this helps,

Hello Henk!

Delfi usually wakes up normally when it have full sun but
recently the processor (?) gets stuck earlier and remains
quiet for the whole full sun pass. In the last pass yesterday
evening I heard telemetry couple of minutes at the start but
then again total silence in the middle of a packet frame.
There is something ill behaviour in the satellite. It does
not restart before eclipse reset. The frequency has been
145.930 all the time.

The next good possibility to hear Delfi awake is 19:07 UTC
when Delfi gets full sun and we are just in the footprint.
