Wayne replies:
AMSAT (North America) collects money for P3E. If you give through
AMSAT-NA it is probably tax-deductible in the U.S. Since the online
store is down now, call Martha at the AMSAT office to make a donation to
P3E.
I think my President's Club renewal form allowed me to specify where the
money goes. I selected the "P3E" check box.

Hi,
Would like to use my 530 to work the sats and have encountered a couple of
problems.
* First tried full duplex with the left hand VFO set to uplink frequency and
the right hand VFO set to downlink. To transmit, the left side must be
active. But it's necessary to change the downlink frequency to account for
doppler, and I can't figure out how to do this except by pressing ALT,
changing the frequency, then pressing ALT again. Is there a better way? Some
HTs have a button that allows tuning on the sub VFO, but if the 530 has it I
have not yet found it.
* Next tried half duplex by setting a memory on the left VFO with the 2 meter
uplink and the 70cm downlink. Problem is that the left VFO can't be set to
tune in 5 khz steps on 70 cm (it can be set to 5 khz on 2m), and 5 khz tuning
is needed for the sats. Is there any way to tune 70cm in 5 khz steps on the
left VFO? The right hand VFO can be set to tune in 5 khz steps on 70 cm, but
it will not transmit on 2m, so only the left VFO can be used for this purpose.
I have heard the 530 is a great satellite HT but it will not be satisfactory
unless I can resolve the tuning problem somehow.
Thanks for any advice and 73,
Bill NZ5N

On the first scenario you describe, start with the left vfo selected, press
the function key, then the key labeled sub. A flashing arrow should appear
next to the right vfo, and the tuning dial will tune the right side. The PTT
will still control the left side.
I've had several of those over the years and always regret selling them.

AMSAT Receives CFC Certification for 2008
AMSAT News Service Bulletin 174.01

On June 13, 2008 The Office of Combined Federal Campaign Operations
issued the final draft of the listings for independent organizations that
have been approved for participation in the 2008 CFC. The Radio Amateur
Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) was again included in the approvals.
The CFC, or Combined Federal Campaign, is the U.S. Government equivalent
Of the United Way in the private sector. The campaign affords all US
Government employees the opportunity to make donations from their regular
paychecks to CFC approved Charities.
AMSAT has again successfully applied to CFC for that status and is grate-
ful for the approval. This stamp of approval means that AMSAT has met the
strict standards set by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
assuring donors that AMSAT's programs of work and financial operational
standards meet the CFC requirements.
Those AMSAT supporters who wish to make payroll contributions should
select the Radio Amateur satellite Corporation (AMSAT) during their
campaign this coming fall. The AMSAT CFC Charity number is 10158. Payroll
deduction is a simple, convenient way to support AMSAT.

An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been
scheduled with Robinson Elementary School in Robinson, Texas on Wednesday,
June
25 at 15:45 UTC, via telebridge station WH6PN in Hawaii. This is the first
ARISS contact to be held with astronaut Greg Chamitoff, KD5PKZ. Approximately
300 second and third graders are enrolled at the school.
2. ARRL PR Campaign Includes ARISS
On June 10, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) ran an article about its
new
PR campaign called "We Do That." A portion of a new brochure and accompanying
Web material cover Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS).
There is also an audio sample of an ARISS contact on the Web site. For more
information, go to: http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2008/06/10/10151/?nc=1
The story also ran in the ARRL Letter. See:

I think that FO29 shuts off all transmitters always just before it gets to
NA because of power problems which cause it to become silent at eclipse.
Then it must be manually re-started by japanese groundstations during their
available daylight passes, mostly ascending ones. That's why it is never
heard over NA. This was discussed a few months ago on the BBS, so the
original discussion should be available online in the various archives.

Dave,
I ran the latest German Language link to Amsat-DL
that Peter offered and it has several articles
about the upcoming European Conference but I
found nothing regarding progress of P3E toward
launch. I used babelfish on-line English translation for this.
So it gives us no real info. Perhaps those attending:

I have a Radio Shack 15-1220 rotator and control unit and do not know
how to connect the 5 wire cable. The control unit has terminals numbered
1-5, but the rotator has 5 screw terminals "without" numbers. do not
want to damage the unit by hooking it up incorrectly. Anybody have a
manual or schematic to advise me as to hookup would be GREATLY
appreciated. Want to use it for Field Day SAT station.

Did you check the Radio Shack web site? They do have manuals for
discontiuned products there. Not sure about rotors.
