According to the schedule posted by Mineo JE9PEL earlier, FO-29 will be
fired up on the 02:31Z pass over Japan. It will remain in the light as it
comes down the Atlantic. So that means around 03:00Z, FO-29 will come in
range of the far east US and should still be on. It will be a pretty low
pass but it will be well in range of Europe so contacts with DX stations
will be posible (DX stations can participate in Field Day by giving their
station class and section "DX" although they can't submit their entries.)
When the bird gets down to about the latitude of New York City, it will
enter the eclipse and turn off shortly after, as the batteries are not in
good shape.

Sam KC2LRC

Been "off the air" with sats once the demise of AO40 but with
all the new birds up, thought I'd give it another go. Since hardware
and software have changed a great deal, thought I'd get some opinions.
I have a Yaesu FT736r and and Yaesu FT847. G5400b rotor and a 22 element
2M cross beam and a larger 440 (not sure how may elements) beam. All
setup on 2.4ghz receive with a converted direct broadcast box i modified
and recently finished an LVB tracker. So the big question remains....
what software? Kind of narrowed it to either SCRAP or Nova, but
any suggestions good bad or otherwise? I used to use WinOrbit before
but would like to use az/el AND radio tuning with the 847... Many
thanks. -James KI0KN

James,

Good programs, but you owe it to yourself to take a look at SATPC32.
http://www.dk1tb.de/indexeng.htm It is similar in some ways to Nova, but
has some additional support for frequency control of both of your radios,
and of course supports the LVB Tracker perfectly. Once you get things
tweaked up, it makes working the birds almost like HF, in that it takes care
of both tracking and the Doppler correction for you. You can download a
fully functional test version, except that you need to enter you QTH
longitude and latitude each time you start it up.

Full disclosure requires me to add that the registration fee goes to a
worthy cause: AMSAT. It all goes for support and development.

Orbitron seemed to do the trick for me. It's free, and I know it can be
interfaced with radios.

James,

Give it a another try. I just checked with both Firefox and IE7 and
everything is working. If you have specific questions about things you
would like to know, or can't find, just ask. You will almost certainly get
an answer, or a URL pointing to it.

Hi all,

Just had an excellent pass for this satellite and managed to capture and
upload 550 packets of telemetry to their servers.

It was cool to watch the data change as the satellite passed over and to
see things like the massive difference in temps between sensors on the
satellite such as +35degC on one and -68degC on the other !

cheers

Tim

Here's another vote for SatPC32. This program was great when I first
purchased it and it has been updated several times since then with each
update improving it even more so. Erich is great with customer support,
usually a quick query here or a direct E-mail to him is answered within 24
hours at the most. Plus, as Alan says, proceeds go to AMSAT and that's a
good thing.

Hi Tim,

great to hear!
by the way, the -68 degree reading is a false reading, because that
sensor is not powered since that radio is off. The other one is ok,
reading the PA temperature of the active radio, which starts out at
approx 5 degrees after switch on, and stabilizes at these "high"
temperatures once the craft is close to eclipse when over your part of
the world hi.
You may want to look at the Thin Film Solar Cell payload IV (current
vs voltage) curves by going to options --> show IV curves, since this
payload also includes temperature sensors, on the end of each solar
panel. Temperatures here show quite some extremes from time to time.
These IV curves and temperatures will however only be shown when at
least one of the MEBO's (Measurement Boards) shows supply current
other than 0 in the MEBO fields in RASCAL (meaning that it is on), and
when the satellite's attitude is such that the cells are illuminated.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for sending in those packets! We are still receiving packets
from all over the world and it's great to see how everyone is still
making an effort to receive data for us!

The reading you saw of -68 degrees on RAP1 is a spurious one, as this
radio AND the PA temperature sensor is switched off at the moment.
Still you can see the difference between the On Board Computer (OBC)
and the PA of RAP2. The computer is usually around freezing point
while the PA is warmed up and around 25 to 35 degrees as you observed.

Thanks for listening to Delfi-C3!

Hello to everybody, after a look to a very interesting site about SDR
http://hpsdr.org/ and in view of the forthcoming Amsat-NA 2008 Space Symposium
in Atlanta, I want propose, to
the various SDR developers and users, the possibility to explain his SDR

What do you think? is there an interest about?

Version 0.3.0 of the General Astrodynamics Library has
been released. It can be downloaded from the project
website here:

http://homepage.mac.com/pclwillmott/GAL/index.html

Updates in this release:

* ODE Integrator sub-library created.

Lunar position and velocity routine added to
ephemerides
sub-library. Routine implements LUNAR SOLUTION
ELP version ELP/MPP02

Solar position and velocity routine added to
ephemerides
sub-library.

Acceleration from spherical harmonics routine
added to
gravity sub-library.

Many routines updated for internal compatibilty
with the upcoming
official IAU SOFA C library. R-matrices have
had indicies
reversed compared to GAL 0.2 and earlier.

Work will now be started on the classical keplerian
models, and atmosphere models.

The General Astrodynamics Library (GAL) is a numerical
library for C and C++ programmers. It is free software
under the GNU General Public License.

The library provides a wide range of astrodynamical
routines such as ephemerides, earth orientation, and orbit
propagation. There are over 225 functions in total with an
extensive test suite.

Bruce,

SSB on either 145.870 or 145.930. It is on all the time when it is
daylight, except when it isn't. More seriously, there is an erratic dropout
of the transmitters. My own experience is that it is on 145.930 more often,
but that it is off more often than not. Assuming a typical ground station,
it is easy to hear if it is on at all. Even on a good pass, it is not
unusual for the signal to cut off suddenly, then come back in a few seconds.
It just requires persistence and patience.
