Hi!

On Thursday (17 July), I begin a week-long road trip that includes
a hamfest and visits to several unusual grids in and around Arizona.
These plans, other than the hamfest, are tentative and subject to
change without warning.

On the 17th, I leave Phoenix for northern Arizona. I will try to be
on the afternoon AO-27 and possibly the evening AO-51 passes from
somewhere up there. I don't know which grids I will get to for
those passes, but I will be on from wherever I happen to be at those
times.

The ARRL Arizona State Convention and Hamfest is a two-day event, on
Friday (18th) and Saturday (19th) in Williams. Williams is a small
city on Interstate 40 and the old US route 66, west of Flagstaff and
south of the Grand Canyon, in grid DM35. At the hamfest, I will be
part of the AMSAT table and will give presentations and do some
demonstrations on the FM satellites and *possibly* VO-52 during
those two days.

After the hamfest, I plan on taking the next 3 or 4 days traveling
around northern and western Arizona and neighboring states. As of
now, I am planning to initially head northeast from Williams toward
the Arizona/Utah border, and then work my way west toward Las Vegas
before returning home. While on the road, I will try to post
updates to my travel plans.

73!

Hi Al,

I haven't been able to try it on AO-16, but in my experience it is
perfect for receiving satellites. I used it for working the current
LEO's (AO-51, VO-52, SO-50, AO-27) without a problem using a portable
Arrow antenna and a FT817 for the uplink.

The best part of it is that is has a built in digital audio recorder
which I find very useful as I don't have to write anything down while
running QSO's.

73, Andre PH7AT.

I was thinking of providing a PDF for field day submissions next year
that will have fill-in fields for scoring. Would there be any reason
someone would not use this or is there a better way? I have always
provided a flat text file you could fill in as well as a word doc. Of
the submissions I have received, they are split almost 50/50 for PDF and
text.

Maybe with radio buttons for the FM birds that you can click if you made
your one contact?

Any suggestions. Trying to streamline and improve things. I know
sometimes things are better left alone, that's why the request for any
suggestions. All of the submissions are coming via email now, none by
paper in the mail. Everyone submitting has a computer so there should be
no reason not to move on with technology.

I offer this as a helpful suggestion, for those that may not be aware of the
potential...

A great way to keep everyone informed of such adventures and events is to use
an APRS or DSTAR radio, or any of the low-cost under $40 APRS interfaces to an
existing radio so others can see where you are in real time on your own APRS
web page: http://map.findu.com/WD9EWK*

> I don't know which grids I will get to..

And of course, these APRS radios display your grid automatically on the front
panel.

> The ... Hamfest is a two-day event...

You can see all the upcoming hamfest APRS objects when you are in range or on
a similar web page: http://map.findu.com/HFEST* . And since you can also see
them on your APRS radio and GPS map, then it makes it easy to just navigate
right to them.

> While on the road, I will try to post
> updates to my travel plans.

>From the TTpad of any APRS radio, you can send an email by text messaging.
Don't even need to be in range of any wireless. Just within 2m range of APRS
anywhere in the country on 144.39.

Very handy for special operating events especially if one is moving or
changing plans, or doing grids, etc

Dont want to come off as an advertisement, but APRS can be very handy as a
tool in support of many aspects of Ham radio.

As usual AMSAT-NA is keeping the crowds unaware and uninformed on AMSAT-BB and
on purpose...NAMASTE and EAGLE project are from my point of
view literally dead! For those who are still believing on a HEO made by AMSAT-
NA forget it they "HALTED" NAMASTE et fired out the EAGLE
team leaders

Here is some e-mails exchange...

It seems obvious now that AMSAT-NA projects are collapsing NAMASTE is dead and
EAGLE PROBABLY WILL BE HALTED TOO?????
SEE BELOW THE FULL EXCHANGE AND PLEASE READ THE THREADS ON:

Here is an excerpt moving around the "Super duper" AMSAT-NA president on the
NAMSATE reflector

So is Michelle STILL team leader?

Are you NOT contradicting yourself here, Rick?

Just some clarification here please.

James W8ISS

NO MORE EXCANGE BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!

AMSAT-NA is on a crashing course i doubt this group will survive up to the end
of 2008! Sad news but could be under a new leadership things
can still have some chance of success!

P.S. I just hope i am dead wrong here?
