My preamp money always goes to SSB Electronics. I've
had several over the years, and they've always been
worth the money.

Hello,
I did hear a "burp" from PCSAT July 14 or 15 (don't remember
which) during an evening pass from W. Michigan.

Hi,

Today I received my VUCC numbered 164 in satellite mode, thanks to all that
contributed by answering my calls and confirming the QSO's, it has been a
wonderful year of my 20 years with a Ham Radio license. and still there is a
lot of fun and grids left....hehe

I tried several AO-51/SO-50 passes on Thursday morning. I did not catch
either KO4MA or W1AW/KL7, but i did speak to two other Alaska stations who
are heading to Anchorage tomorrow (Friday). If horizons and weather are
permitting, they may try to activate some interesting grid squares enroute.
So don't neglect the western passes on Friday, as there might be some nice
opportunities there.

I was on one AO-51 pass from near Talkeetna(sp?) on Thursday afternoon, with
only a few other stations on. I'll be at the BBQ kicking off the hamfest
tomorrow evening, and will try to be on the air, but I'll tell ya...the
mountains are making the low parts of the passes very difficult.

You missed my suggestion..........."Build your 70 preamplifier by yourself"

At the beginning you will be probably unsuccesfull and it will cost to you
more then to buy it as new in a store but in a couple of years if you are
perseverant reading and studing into the appropriate books and magazine you
will learn the venerable art of the real satellite experimenter.

The instruments you need ?............nothing of magic but only a noise
generator made with a diode 1N21 and more important the exact knoledge of
the meaning "Noise Figure" and how to do to adjust a preamplifier for the
lovest value using the above very simple "Noise Generator".

Good question! I was going to send you the standard response
saying she is napping in the dark, but just did a quick check
myself and PCSAT (W3ADO-1) has not been heard since 2 July at
11:52:39 and the last station to digipeat through it was SP9UX
on the 5th at 04:09:14 and the last USA station was W4AEJ on the
1st at 14:04:28...

But I also notice that PCSAT passes are at night over the
Northern Hemisphere where everyone lives. Maybe we can wake up
someone down-under to see if they can listen for PCSAT (W3ADO-1)
NO-44 on 145.825 MHz... May not decode it, but should be able
to hear it attempting to send a packet once a minute.. Only in
the sun, of course...

So Robert, thanks for bringinig this to our attention... PCSAT
was launched on 30 Sept 2001.

Bob, Wb4APR

Actually, I was wrong. PCSAT passes are not all in the dark in
the northern hemisphere, and I should have no problem listening
here... so don't sweat it. Good luck with the
Storm damage...

Sorry i missed you yesterday afternoon; we already had plans. There were
several stations out there on a couple of the morning passes i worked on
Thursday (including a Canadian station i haven't heard on in quite awhile).

Agreed! I have the same problem working passes from the Sierra Nevada and
i don't expect most Alaskans to make low elevation passes (thus choose my
passes accordingly). Here are some predictions for today. I'm only setup
for mode J-FM at the moment, but others may found linear transponder passes
useful, and AO-27 is not included. (Even with the updated schedule, AO-27
seems to go to telemetry before it even rises as far north as BP54.)

73's and best of luck!

Hi.

Did anyone take a good picture of the 1:1 model of DelfiC3 at Surrey last
week?

I would like to print a copy and put it on the lab wall at the school where
I work, but I didn't take a camera........

Thanks

David G0MRF

Over the last couple of days, I've been adding as many of the
presentations from the AMSAT-UK Colloquium to the AMSAT-UK website as
slide shows. There are a couple that have been held back at the
request of their presenters and a few that I've not been able to read
on Mac OSX or on Linux and one or two that I never got my grubby paws
on.

But there are 15 online at:

	http://www.uk.amsat.org/content/view/664/235/

You'll find some of last years presentations there as well.

We have still to sort out what will happen to the Video copies..

Bye for now, John

Hello All,

I received a comment that the SSB preamps draws excessive DC power from the
rig, and the recommendation was to use an external sequencer to supply DC
power to mast mounted preamplifiers. Has anyone had a problem with blown
switching transistors in the transceiver of the Icom- 910; and does anyone
know what the current draw is for external preamps for the Icon, thank you.

Drew,

Hoping you are having a good time up here. We are departing for
Anchorage in an hour in order get there in time for the KL6M EME
Tour. Will be looking forward to seeing you there. My presentation
is the same time as yours on Saturday, but I will attend your's on
Sunday. This is the only hamfest scheduled for 2008 in Alaska so it
should draw hams from all parts of the state.

Mobile with my FT-817 on 147.27 (103.5Hz) repeater.
