I have not heard GO-32 for several days. I usaually download Pac-Sat messages
every few days. GO-32 signal has always been strong. Has something changed
recently or has my setupdeveloped a problem?

I was trying to copy the Compass-1 CW beacon tonight. About halfway
through the pass, I started copying CW about 5 kHz above where I
expected Compass-1 to be. It kept repeating "CUTE" and 2-number groups..
it's far off any of the published frequencies of any of the CO- birds..
anybody have any idea what I have copied?
I have the telemetry copied if anyone wants it, too much to write out
right now...

Hi folks:
Can you display the "blue marble" maps in SatPC32ISS (note: the ISS
program)? There is no BM/PI button on the ISS program.
Thanks,

I last heard it on the 13th, and japan last heard it on the 14th.
I had some good passes today but didn't hear anything, but didn't
really attempt to try to hear the audio myself (had two kids I was
dealing with).

Hi Pete, WB2OQQ
FO-29 was active in all the available Northbound and Southbound orbits to
day here over Europe.
Even during the Southbound orbits in the night when FO-29 is in ECL signals
from the transponder where very strong when I was in QSO with SV1BSX
In order to verify if your receiving system has the needed sensitivity in 70
cm I suggest you to switch your receiver in USB Mode and tune the CW
telemetry beacon at 435.795 MHz +/- Doppler
If your receiving system has the right sensitivity you must receive the
telemetry beacon constantly from the AOS to LOS without problems.
When FO-29 is orbiting over EU and particularly when the medium EST and
Africa are into the footprint the transponder is so sensitive to translate
many FM intuders talking into the 2 meters uplink "jamming" our SSB
QSO's
By the way the numbar of users of FO-29 is very small because many of them
are using not suitable receiving systems so that is very common to hear
carriers and lots of CW string of points going up and down into the passband
in the attemp to get back their return without success but if you are in
conditions to receive the telemetry beacon all the way then you must be able
to get back your own signal even using a very low EIRP
For the uplink in 2 meters remember to transmit in LSB because the
transponder is "inverting"
I hope this helps

It's also to know if the satellite will be visible from the ground (at least
the big ones like the ISS), if the satellite is in sunlight in orbit and we're
in darkness on the ground.

Hi Bob !
That is Cute-1.7 + APD II.
More information on that satellite:
http://lss.mes.titech.ac.jp/ssp/cute1.7/index_e.html
http://www.pa3guo.com
http://www.dk3wn.info/sat/afu/sat_cute17apd2.shtml
Both Compass and Cute share the same frequency (437.275MHz)
Due to doppler you hear they sometimes both.
Compass CW tones sound a bit distorted, I wouldn't know how to
express that in English, once you heared both you'll remember.
This is how Compass sounds like (recorded 1 day after launch):
http://www.pa3guo.com/compass_pa3guo_29apr08_1820utc_cw_437.275.mp3
This is Cute:
http://www.pa3guo.com/cute_17_01may08_2035utc_pa3guo_cw_437.275_75_deg.mp3
Thanks for help monitoring Compass !

Dom's advice is spot-on, as usual. If you can't wait for FO-29 to
return, you can use the many transmit-only CW birds on 70cm to make
sure your 70cm receive set-up is working well. LO-19, for instance,
has a booming signal. CO-55, CUTE1-7 and the like have signals from
80-100mW, which a FO-29 capable station should be able to hear very
well. If you keep written or mental notes regarding the signal
strength of these 'beep sats', and how low on the horizon you can hear
them, you should be able to assure yourself that all is well with your
station.
These CW signals provide another service for calibrating your station.
If you watch the CW signal on the waterfall of an audio decoding
program like the free Digital Master 780, you can see how accurate is
any Doppler compensation you have. If the result is a signal that
varies more than, say 150Hz over the pass, you might want to check
either if your clock is accurately set to an NTP server or your
location is correctly stated in your Doppler tuning program.

Hi all,
The recent events are dramatically. Our two ground stations are almost
inoperable.
A few days ago however, a hard-reset of the satellite had occurred, which
brought the satellite back into the following vicious circle: Once the
heater is being switched on, the battery power drops drastically, which
causes another hard-reset. This goes on and on. The only chance to recover
the satellite is to avoid the activation of the heater. This can be done by
adjusting threshold values.
Since these values are reset after each hard-reset, we would need to send
them again and again, until the satellite is in a stable condition
(batteries charging), where no reset occurs.
Thus, if you would like to support this recovery phase and have the right
equipment to do so, please upload the following DTMF tones to COMPASS-1
(simply from loudspeaker via microphone)
THRESHOLD ADJUSTMENT (to do after every hard reset)
****14#200# heater off to -55 degr THIS
IS THE VERY IMPORTANT COMMAND
****13#200# heater on to -55 degr
****16#170# critical batt threshold to 3.3V
****15#255# low batt threshold to max -> charge batteries
The commands consist of 4 stars, two numbers, a hash, 3 numbers, and a hash.
If COMPASS receive this sequence successfully you can hear a short
confirmation beep.
There is an good and free DTMF dialer to download here:
<http://www.polar-electric.com/DTMF/Index.html#Encoder>
http://www.polar-electric.com/DTMF/Index.html#Encoder
Uplink: 145.980 MHz FM
Downlink: 437.275 MHz CW
If you have any questions, please ask me. Thank you very much in advance !!!
We appreciate your support!! On behalf the COMPASS-team

ao-51 has a schedule, and isn't always on packet, currently it is
using a 2meter uplink and a 13cm downlink for fm voice.
on the 18th the packet gets turned back on.

It seems that SEEDS is in CW mode. Around 16:05 today, nstead of the
cheery chorus of children, I heard thumping on FM, so I switched over
to CW. The doppler seemed way off, so I wasn't able to copy any code,
but the signal disappeared at exactly the right time. Alternatively,
it was another satellite that I don't have programmed into my SatPC32
right now, but in that case SEEDS' signal was unusually low.
