Hello All
Here's an interesting endeavor. The downlink on AO-7 mode B is 145.950 which
is the uplink for FO-29. So you could hear yourself (or anyone else) on the
FO-29 downlink at 435.850, when both are in view. I think there was
something like this back in the days of the RS birds. Why bother? Well we
have to do something to keep our interest going while waiting for the next
HEO. Plus it's fun.

Hi Bob and all readers,

This is something we used to do with A0-7 (mode B) and A0-8 (mode J) in the
old days.
Give it a shot!

All:

Is there somewhere that one can find all the different meanings of all the
different modes that the spacecraft transceivers use. For instance what is
Mode A, B, A/B, J and so on?

Thanks

Hi Tyler.

This is a little historic.

Having moved away from these descriptions about 10 years ago they seem to be
returning.

Personally I prefer the more descriptive

Mode U/V first letter uplink second letter downlink UHF up VHF down
or L/S V/U S/X etc etc.

Never could remember them then.......and still can't now.

Hello all....

Well, after a long hiatus this summer, I have been finding the time again to
work the satellites.

However, last night's AO-51 pass had me rather dismayed....I could barely
hear it at 45 degrees for a pass. Has the power level for 51 been reduced,
and if so, what is she running?

Thanks all, and see you again this Autumn.

Hi,

The AO-51 config was changed to help with the commisioning of the GENSO
groundstation at the ESA
International Space University in Strasbourg over the past three days

You can find the details at:

Hello John,

AO-51 was changed into mode V/SU Monday night to assist our friends at GENSO
in testing a new station setup.

You can check the current mode of AO-51 at
http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/echo/CTNews.php

We are just entering a no eclipse period and since I can't get telemetry
while in this mode, I needed to reduce the power of TXB so that the total
power was equal to the power being used by TXA and TXB just before the mode
change.

TXB is running about 380 mW, Sunday it was 600 mW. I will be switching back
to V/U analog and L/U digital mode to night on a US east coast pass.

Gould, WA4SXM

Hi Bob, W7LRD

Since OSCAR-7 mode B and FO-29 mode-J have both inverting transponders using
SSB it happens that to be received as usually in USB over the FO-29 downlink
we must transmit as well USB into the OSCAR-7 uplink.

Since the noise translated by OSCAR-7 mode-B is very high probably a try on
CW will be convenient.

As Rick WA4NVM pointed out with OSCAR-7 mode-B and OSCAR-8 mode-J
it was a common practice.

Good morning...

Anybody here using Orbitron and the WISPDDE program to control their radio?
I am curious as to whether the FT-817 would work in this way. I already use
Orbitron, so the charm in it is that I wouldn't need to use an older package
such as Instant Tune/Track to achieve half-duplex.

Thanks!

SatPC32 does it beautifully, without any other add-on programs. I recently
worked from Alaska to Michigan on AO-7 Mode B (excuse me, Mode UV) with
nothing more than my 817, laptop and cat cable, and Arrow antenna.
