Hi David,
Yes - I heard that as well. I have informed one of them
about the schedule for this weekend with SSTV on the
L/U transponder. He did not know, he said.

As you said there are more than one. If you can make out the
call try to send them an e-mail or tell them. Most often it helps.

Received three SSTV pictures from you via AO-51.

I can't get PREDICT to run on my linux systems for some reason and would
like to access a online PREDICT server for my PREDICT-GSAT program until
I can fiqure out why PREDICT won't run on any of my systems.

FYI, I have PREDICT loaded but it keeps going to the edit location
screen each time I start. I enter my information each time and it shuts
down each time.

I had that; I went to gpredict instead, because I wanted a GUI in any
case. Of course that has its own oddities (if you edit the TLE files,
make sure you don't leave a blank line at the end - the parser is
rubbish) but it's worked well for me.

Hi James,

Wow, never seen this. Sounds like you have a files permissions issue
somewhere. What version, and how was it compiled? Where do you run it from?

I'm running a modified version of Predict 2.2.1 on my system (but it's behind
a firewall, so you won't be able to connect to it). I cd to the directory
where the program is (where it was compiled), and run it from there. The TLE
and QTH files are in ~/.predict, which, of course, I have r/w access to (mode
755). The files themselves are 644. If I recall, everything was done from my
own account, not root.

Oh, one other idea... if you're using -s in the run string, you need to add
Predict's network port in the /etc/services file:

predict 1210/udp # Predict 2/3/2007 GDD

Dear friends,

Spacedev announced that founder Jim Benson died
yesterday. He was 63. Some of you may remember him
from the 1999 AMSAT Space Symposium where he was
the guest speaker at the banquet.

Spacedev provided several components of the rocket
motor used on SpaceShipOne to win the Ansari X Prize
on October 4, 2004 (the 47th anniversary of Sputnik 1.)

that record needs the predict name, as some Linux systems include 1210/
udp with another name.

Hi John,

Not sure what you mean by "needs the predict name", but that line is straight
from my /etc/services file.
There are also two other lines for port 1210 for "eoss", one for tcp, and the
other udp, on my system,
(which is OpenSuSE 10.3).

Am using 10 watts from my TS-2000X into a 22 element M2INC yagi. Using HRD
DM780 SSTV software (free). Very easy to use. Simon did a great job on this
application and provides great support.

I have no transmit capability but I've been trying to copy some pictures. I
got two from you last night Jeff that were good but it wasn't a great pass
for me and I had a lot of noise. One thing I might add is that Jeff's
pictures were spot on as far as what I had my receive slant adjustment set
but a lot of the others I've tried to copy, the slant was way off. My
receive slant adjustment has always been fine on 20 meters SSTV so I don't
know what's going on there. BTW I use Chromapix which to me is still the
best software out there but you do have to pay for it whereas MMSSTV and
Simon's software are free. Wasn't any such thing way back when I bought
Chromapix....hi hi

He means you need to add a 'clone' of that service with a name of 'predict'.

I'm running about 10w from my IC910. My antenna is a 12 turn helix fed
through about 30 ft. of LMR-400. The resulting ERP should be about 200W. I'm
using MMSSTV through a home-brew sound card interface.

Subject: [amsat-bb] 432 MHz linear amplifier

At the suggestion of the AMSAT Treasurer I am posting this request to the
bulletin board:

What I am looking for is a solid-state 70 cm linear amplifier that has an
input of no more than 250 mW and an output of at least 10 watts and 25 or more
would be even better. The frequency range needs to be from 432 MHz to 435 MHz
or wider.

I am familar with a couple of kits including the one from Australia that
definitely has the best price. However, I am also looking at building my own
but have not found a suitable construction article here on the Internet using
both "google" and "yahoo" as search engines. Nor have I found a suitable
amplifier in the issues of Ham Radio Magazine and 73 Magazine that I have.
What I am looking for is something that has a board "layout" (I am definitely
able to reproduce a board). I do have a "fair" number of suitable transistors
and other parts available that can be used.

Also, if someone has a suitable linear amplifier (this is for both CW and SSB)
at a reasonable price or else for trade I would definitely be interested. I
have all sorts of things to trade including tubes (receiver, transmit, higher
power), components, and a few "boat anchor" items.

Since I am on a "fixed income" (Social Security disability) I definitely do
have to be careful as to how much I spend on such things (my wife would
definitely take severe action against my bodily health if I spend too much).

What I need the linear amplifier for is a Microwave Modules 432 MHz
transverter. The 10 watt linear amplifier board is missing and the basic
exciter only puts out 250 mW. Now I did know the amplifier was missing before
I traded for the unit so that was not a surprise. The transverter works very
well but the output power is not sufficient to really do anything with and is
way too little to drive my 4CX250B amplifier.

Sunday 7:30utc

Following stations seen via SSTV on 435.300
LX1BB
EA3DME
EA4ETR

This is an ISS preparation activity, but even without ISS
trials this would be a fun mode to have a few days a month.
