Heard a good signal, though brief. He said something to a VE? about
troubleshooting something, and that was the last I heard, though the pass
ran another 3-4 minutes.

Not really Ben!! I'm fortunate to have enough equipment to pick an
choose, and have been doing it on the satellites for 28 years...

The money that "went down the tubes" to build and launch an FM only
voice bird is my gripe...And a lot of people do agree with me, but
with the "powers that were" at the time we objectors had no
voice...And I was told so at several conventions pre-launch...

Looks like things are really changing for the better, and it is about time...

Any other questions!!

Have been monitoring continuously over VK on every pass however nothing
received so far, many stations in VK would also like the opportunity to RX
SSTV from the ISS.

Gerry,
I heard him as well, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was making
contact with a group at a school. Thought I'd let him talk to the kids
instead of breaking in and looking for QSO. S-7 up here.

Folks

I am preparing for an ISS contact later this week, and historically we have
used SATPC32 to do the Doppler correction. The last contact we did over here
in the UK the SATPC32 Doppler correction broke, and despite hours of trying
to get it to work again, it failed to work so I resorted to manual Doppler
operation if required. A similar thing happened on another contact previous
to that one.

I now seem to be in the same boat again. After upgrading to 12.8 tonight, I
did get it to work, but then in order to make room for another low port COM
port for SSTV work I shifted the CAT for SATPC32 up to COM18 and since then
I can't get the CAT to work again. I reverted back to COM2, and now on
launch SATPC32 says it can't open COM2.

If I switch to a COM port of 0, then the error clears but of course I can't
use CAT as that disables it.

Using sysinternal's Portmon, I can see the rotor serial port opening but no
attempt is made to open COM2 or any other port. I can open COM2 (and COM18)
using Hyperterminal. Portmon indicates that no other process has the COM
ports open.

I know you don't really need Doppler for the ISS, but Doppler correction is
a prerequisite for ARISS contacts, and I'd like to get it working again.

I'm happy to mess around with the .SQFs, if I knew which one(s) to tweak,
and which parameter(s) to alter.

This was Richard's first day on ISS. He got SSTV running (sort of) just a few
hours after the hatch was opened and managed a few general contacts. The
SpaceCam system seems to have issues with keying the radio and not sending
images. Because of this, imagery is not likely to be sent when the radio
cannot be easily monitored. This means that SSTV transmissions during the crew
sleep period (roughly 2030-0600 UTC) is unlikely. You may need to adjust your
sleep schedules to provide yourselves with the best chance of contacting him
during his awake hours or to receive SSTV.

Tomorrow begins the first full day on ISS for Garriott so we should have twice
the opportunities we did today.

Best of luck to all.

Kenneth - N5VHO

Why not Robot 36 as originally suggested? 36 seconds per frame. Not the
greatest quality, but at least the pass is less likely to end in the middle of
it.

Good Stuff! You have to love it when both satellite activities AND QRP are
mixed together!

When ISS and NO-44 are running, I can hit them both with 500 mW to an
Eggbeater. That 300 mW is VERY impressive to say the least.

Great work!

The ISS will be passing nearly overhead of my QTH in about 45 minutes
and I was wondering if anyone knows weather or not there is a chance
they will be broadcasting? Is there a schedule online anywhere, a
quick google didn't turn anything up.

Thanks,

I was able to work AO-51's QRP transponder yesterday with 500mW and a
homebrew antenna - 3 element yagi on 2m and 5 element on 70cm. I need
to get some kind of portable recorder now, for recording the passes - I
missed the chap's callsign twice due to local (acoustic) noise.

Richard Garriott was on voice over UK and Europe for the 10.14 utc pass.

Using a mixture of his own callsign and RS0ISS he made a brief contact with
Cor, PD0RKC and the went on to call RK3DZB, the Cosmonaut Training Centre
where he spoke with his father.

I heard a little bit of this pass, with the signal absolutely booming in
here in IO75 square. Then I went outside and realised that my rig
wasn't hooked to the j-pole but to the 6-ele quad, which I'd lowered and
which was lying on the ground under a large hedge...

Seems the ISS is louder than I expected ;-)

Got 2 pictures on the 1312Z pass. ISS was over FL, and they look to be live
shots of the Gulf or Atlantic Ocean. Lots of blue background and clouds.
Both Robot 36, and uploaded to the ISS gallery.
