On the attached file for EU reflector and on my web page at www.qsl.net/ve2dwe
you
will hear the October 15 1759utc ISS pass where Richard
Garriott is having a QSO with VE1AMA who also contacted his father W5LFL Owen
Garriot
couple of years ago. I was able to get him just at
the end of the pass.

Is there a pl tone that the ISS is using?
I have all the offsets correct but it seems like I am not having any luck.

I got about 1/2 of an SSTV image on the earlier pass from CM87ux, but on
the second pass, I had my recorder on and caught the downlink
conversation from Richard as he was apparently carrying on some kind of
voice exchange. I just got the downlink, but the quality is pretty
good, given that I recorded it with my trusty TH-D7a and Arrow antenna,
and the maximum elevation was only 23 degrees.
http://brainwagon.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/garriot-speaks.mp3
Starts a bit rough (elevation was about 7 degrees in the middle of an
urban park with some buildings serving as blockers).

Good Afternoon, all!
Well...on the 1930 pass, K8YSE worked NA1SS!
OK...so just what are the frequencies? Is it the 144.49/145.800? Or is it
145.200/145.800? Or simplex?
Congratulations, John!

Just had a pass of about 42 degrees at 21:13 UTC over the eastern part of the
U.S. Grid EM83 and heard nothing. No SSTV, no voice. Looks like I'm going to
have to leave the rig and PC running unattended 24 hours a day to have a
chance at snagging anything. I should be able to copy this with a vertical
right? I'm having some problems with my AZ/EL rotators and don't want to leave
them unattended.

What I did for the pass I captured was I set up a script to fire up an
audio recorder a couple of minutes before the pass started, and
configured the recorder to stop after 15 minutes (to make sure I really
got the end).
I plan on leaving the laptop and transceiver set up like this tomorrow,
because I'll be too busy to keep an eye on it.

I'll set mine up for tonight while I sleep and tommorow while I work. Maybe
I should get something then. I have Chromapix SSTV software and I'll have to
check my docs but I believe when set to auto receive that it will
continually receive pics and place them in an "autosave" folder.
Thanks,
Michael, W4HIJ

During the 21:13 pass over N. America, the ISS was running packet on
145.825 simplex. The SSTV systems are not available to be run unattended
at this time and the crew had begun their sleep period. You can get an
idea of when SSTV and voice might be available by looking at the posted
crew schedules at
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/timelines/10_2008_tl.html
Garriott is listed as SFPVC, Fincke is CDR-18.

I have a like new VC-H1 that I bought new and have used very little. I
bought all the factory cables at the same time. They include the
connection for the Kenwood D7a/e handheld, the D700 mobile, and
comport cable for computer control. I have the original 12 volt
Kenwood wall power supply. I also have the VC-H1 manual. The software
is on a 3.5 floppy and will run under Windows 95 and 98. I don't know
about XP. I can copy it to a CD if needed. I still have a computer
with a 3.5 floppy. If anyone is interested I would consider selling
all this for $350.00. First email stating "I will take it" gets it.
thanks << John

It was as a thrill for me to just hear his voice and some SSTV signals. Sure I
wanted to work him but many do too. I just wonder what it sounds like for him
as he flys over a populated area ?
I used phonetics Victoria Norway Echo in my W9VNE call sign. He came back
; is there a station from Norway calling ? Well his foot print was no where
near Norway at the time as he headed South East over the USA. So just maybe he
caught a little of my call.
I too heard him say K8YSE but I never heard anything after that . Good Luck
John, K8YSE I hope he recorded your call.
He is super strong. I have an M Squared circular polarized yagi with 7
vertical and 7 horizontal. It has about 10 db gain. I could really track him
with both azimuth and elevation very well.
I have been a fan of the ISS for a long time watching it visually half a dozen
times a year. My neighbors have been treated to it when I point out what it is
I am watching . . . . . I remember 35 years ago when Skylab was scooting
across the sky . . . my XYL and I went out to a dark sky area and were parked
waiting for Skylab to appear. A cop came down the rural gravel road and wanted
to know why we were parked there. I explained that we were waiting for Skylab
and wanted to see it visually. He really looked at us like . . . . are you
kidding me ? We then got out our driver licenses which showed the same address
and showed him our wedding rings . . . then I said LOOK . . . . he was
shocked . . . then he had this silly look on his face and said, " I'm sorry"
.. . . as he drove away.
