I received a total of 3 SSTV transmissions today (17 Oct 2008) at grid
FM18. The transmission at 2031z was mostly clear depicting the Soyuz module
with Earth in the background. The other two earlier ones were pretty
noisy/ghostly. Received using MMSSTV in Robot36 format (auto selected).

Gear here: Yaesu FT-857 with 2m/440 Ringo in the attic.

The pass and picture cycle timing aligned this morning and I just
managed to squeek in three full frames in one pass. Last one was a bit
noisy as the el went down to 2 degrees behind power lines and trees, but
got it all in. I can routinely hear signals below the theoretical
horizon and follow them to LOS at slight neg el also.

Even 12 feet height extends the visual horizon a bit--as a celestial
navigator, we correct for height of eye off the water and enter it in
feet, so a foot or two makes a difference.

Hey everyone,

I hope as many of you as possible get a chance to work at least one of the
satellites stations on the air for this JOTA weekend. I've worked two so far,
and both contacts have been really cool. Both operators let scouts take the
mic, and I'm sure those kids were thrilled to have stations calling them like
they were.

I'm sending 2 QSL cards to both stations - 1 with a note of thanks to the
operator(s) who made the effort to get some scouts into orbit this weekend,
and another to the scout I spoke to. I hope those of you who work stations -
especially if you get to talk to a scout - will do the same.

73 to all,

Hi Domenico and Dave, Thanks for the pics and the help . They helped a
lot. The other question I have is that there is 3 componets on the power
connector and one on the ground side of theboom screw. I cant tell what
they are. I have two on the power connector and nothing on the ground
pin. I know they need to be changed. Can you help with this?? Thanks
Angelo

Hi Angelo,

In a separate email I have sent to you 3 enlarged pictures of the PCB
for the KLM polarity switcher.

Please note that the holes from one side to the other side of the PCB
are metallized.

When soldering the new relay do not use a too high temperature for
the
soldering iron otherwise the studs of relay becames oxidated (blue
color)

If possible use solder from ALPHA METALS INC with 62 Sn, 36 PB and
2 Ag

Hi Clive,

Good to hear you are listening for our satellite!

We have not published the telemetry format and conversion equations at
this point. The reasoning behind this is that all this has been
incorporated in RASCAL, so you can just read if off the screen there.

Unfortunately, tuning and getting RASCAL to lock properly turned out be
harder than we thought. Therefore we have written a small manual on our
website and you can find it at http://www.delfic3.nl/rascal/ under
'instructions'. The audio clip on our website is perfectly suited for
this purpose and has in fact been used by ourselves and many
radio-amateurs to get their set-ups up and running. Please note that
this audio clip has been recorded at an exact frequency in order to get
RASCAL decode and does not contain any Doppler shift.

Good luck!

Best regards,

Gerard Aalbers, Delfi-C3 team

Hi folks,

More pictures from ISS this morning. One blue-screen from the 15:29z pass,
then two pictures out the window on the 16:00z pass. The 17:41z pass (just
completed) I almost turned off the rig after a silent pass, when one picture
was sent right at the end (about 5 degrees elevation). Still full quieting
for most of the image, and I finally got the skew adjusted on my software
(qsstv on Linux). Pictures uploaded to the ARISS site.

While it's nice to see what they see out the window, I'd much rather have them
turn the camera around and see the insides of the Station. Is that possible
to request? Or, is the camera in an area of the Station where privacy would
be a concern?

Thanks to all who made this possible. My neighbors were by on Thursday during
the morning school contact, and my wife turned up the volume so they could
listen in (I was at work). They were amazed. And then to see the pictures,
too. What a cool hobby!

Thanks again,

Greg KO6TH
