Improved handling of DST is on the wishlist for InstantTrack, but don't hold
your breath. The original code relied on the Microsoft-provided library (from
the C compiler) for DST handling. Re-writing those routines is likely to be
bug-prone.

Hi Pieter,

I've only seen the documentation that came with the software, and used that to
build a program to run my rig for Doppler shift. A pass prediction table
shouldn't be too hard; perhaps a little tedious. Let us know what you come up
with! :-)

If you're looking for some software that makes pass prediction tables, and
don't mind some creaky old MS-DOS software, the pass prediction utility that
came with PCTrack might fit the bill. The code is "shareware", if you
remember back that far, and I've got an old copy on my ham site, along with a
patch program I wrote to work around the Y2K bug. I haven't tried it, but I'm
guessing it should all run under dosbox under Linux, or the command prompt on
Windows. See: http://home.wavecable.com/~ko6th

Look about halfway down the page to the 31-March entry. pctscan.exe is the
part you need; it's in the archive. Don't forget to run my patch.exe program,
after updating the Keps using the convert.exe program. At least, I think
that's how it works... It's been a while.

Good luck,

Greg KO6TH

The last two passes over Europe no signal heard from ISS.

09:47 UTC and 11:22 UTC

Too bad, because in the pass from 08:15 UTC I heard George tell about
problems with the SSTV signals.

Here is the audio of that pass:
http://www.ham.vgnet.nl/?download=RS0ISS-21102008-1015-CEST.mp3

Did someone else hear something above Europe?

I heard this as well on the 08.06utc UK pass. I believed he was talking
about an uplink to the ISS. He seems to be describing the RX as showing as
busy but no resolved content.

Nothing heard on the 09.41 pass but the 11.17 pass showed a couple of brief
periods of carrier about 2 minutes from LOS. These were much weaker than
normal.

A look at the daily schedule gives some insight.

I suspect he was not hearing the uplink from the planned contact.

Might encourage others to get the equipment to work L/S mode.

I have been visually tracking the ISS for several years. One of my other
interests is in star gazing. Now I can say that I have talked to the BIG BIRD
too. At 1242 GMT Richard came back : " will the station in Cincinnati come
back". Well I decided that he was hearing a lot of alphabet soup . . . . just
numbers and letters and that something different might be useful in catching
his ear . . . . so I used my city CINCINNATI. Well it worked. I have operated
from the other side of pileups too and know that you appreciate having
something differentiate A signal from the others. A friend of mine who lives
about 10 miles from me has it all on a recording. Good luck to all of you who
are trying to grab a quick QSO with Richard. I achieved one of my goals in Ham
Radio. It was a real thrill for me.

There are some advantages to living in bush Alaska and 400 miles from
civilization. This Sunday at 2106 UTC I made successful contact with Richard
Garriott on the International Space station. Mr. Garriot told me I was his
first contact in North America for that pass. I had him all to myself for
three minutes before the space station passed over the lower 48. This was
definitely a QSO I'll always remember!
