AO 7 switches from Mode A to Mode B every day about 2000 GMT. You have to pay
attention to which mode AO 7 is operating. Use the AO 7 Log which can be
accessed through the Amsat site

Fred, I did the same thing on FO29 ~ 2000 z today, and heard no one
besides myself!!

And I was looking at a good chunk of Mexico, all of the Pacific
states, western third of Canada...all of Alaska, a big chunk of Eastern Russia

What in the world has happened to the ham satellite community in the
USA and Canada?

And AO51 was designed to promote hamsats!!

Let us not make that mistake again..

Oh yes, it is. It is in daily use at OZ7SAT - 24/7 on our automatic,
unmanned ground station. I made a release of PB/PG for Linux in January
of this year. It may be found several places:

http://www.fern.dk/?PB%2FPG (the main site)

I have at several occations tried to persuade some of the Cubesat people
to use this protocol, but so far to no avail.

Joe's constant, friendly presence on the birds has been a great boon
to many of us. I believe I worked my first AO-7 contact with him,
cross mode: he copied my 3w CW, I copied his FB SSB! Even before that,
his CQ'ing provided me with a reliable signal on many passes so that I
could tune antennas, tweak rotors and play with doppler adjustment.

Congratulation's in reaching 7000 + in the AO-7 log. You presence and
patience that you showed me in learning the personality of this "Grand Bird"
has added a great deal to my enjoyment of this mode, thank you and I look
forward to being a part of your log for 8k and on!

AO-51 is always very crowded when in V/U FM mode, so I think it's doing
a pretty good job promoting satellite work. I think this shows that FM
satellites are just more popular then SSB ones, which, if you think
about it make sense considering the amount of 2M/70cm SSB equipment
versus 2M/70cm FM equipment.

Perhaps we should focus on getting more FM LEOs aloft to distribute the
load from AO-51 and continue praying that AO-27 wakes from it's slumber.

I have a top of the line Kenwood all mode satellite rig for sale. The price
include shipping in the US, but can be reduced for pickup in Lawton, OK. It is
a Kenwood TS790A VHF/UHF transceiver. It does 45 watts on 2m and 35 watts on
70cm CW/SSB/FM. It does do dual receive, satellite tracking functions, and
tone encode. Not sure about tone decode. This is one of the best satellite
and weak signal radios ever made. QST gave it rave reviews in their product
review and said it was an excllent VHF/UHF contest radio. You can work
144.200 and 432.100 at the same time, and you can also add the optional 1.2ghz
module for a triband radio. It comes with a hand mic, power cord, and a copy
of the manual. Asking $675.
