Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the PG-4V cable that connects between a
VC-H1 and TH-D7AG?
Thank you.

I think Domenico's comments show poor Amateur Spirit. But each are
entitled to their own opinion.
As for myself, I have been very glad and proud to provide support to the
Compass-1 project by collecting telemetry and helping with command of
the spacecraft.
I know Mike must have devoted countless volunteer hours in his support
to this project; I know he has emailed me for specific requests at what
must be some very long hours in EU.
I wonder if the same can be said for.... well, I'll leave it there.
I will continue to support Compass-1, and any other satellite, Amateur
or otherwise, whose staff have the courage to ask for my help.

Hello all
>From my QTH CN87wk (near Seattle Wa.), once in awhile I have a good link into
N. Europe. The only one available is Mika OH8MBN. Check your tracking
computer, I'm sure there are other gents over there willing to try to stretch
the footprint. Another observation- I noticed there is a significant
difference in downlink signal strength between 145.950 and 145.958. Where
.958 is stronger. Just curious, why? Also can we use 145.958 +/- a little
for designated DX (footprint stretching). I have tried to push this before,
with no bites. With time short, a designated frequency would eliminate one
variable. See you on AO-7!

Bob,
I will leave the why to the builders, but I have also noticed ripples in the
passband. I can't find my notes, but at one time I walked across the AO-13
passbands, stepping around QSOs, and found some reproducible modest
variations. Not as easy as it sounds, since the AGC was constantly making
changes.

This is something I'd love to have, but I've never seen one; I've
considered writing one (I'm an iPhone owner and I'm fairly well versed
in Objective-C), but the math kind of defeated me. :-( I may try to
pick it up again when I'm feeling ambitious.

Hi All,
I want to fully endorse the comments from Bob and Bruce. I have been
working with the Compass team for the last few months and it has been a most
enjoyable experience. Their willingness to provide feedback, telemetry
decoding software and general information is I think unique in the Cubesat
world. Beyond that it is the only amateur satellite as far as I know that
actually invites active participation in satellite command and control
operations - an opportunity normally restricted to a select few. It presents
an opportunity to try something quite different from the normal run of the
mill amateur satellite operations and I for one believe that Compass has
been an excellent addition to the ranks of amateur satellites.

If you google for "kenwood pg-4v", you'll find a link to the TH-D7 service
manual. While it doesn't have a diagram, per se, it does have the pinout
listing.

Robert:
The math got me too with the LVB Tracker 2 code. So I massaged the following
(with authors' permission) to squeeze into a PIC:
// PLAN13 algorithm:
// Copyright 1983-2005 James R. Miller G3RUH
//
// PLAN13 C port:
// Copyright 1997-2005 Edson Pereira N1VTN
//
// AOS/LOS algorithms:
// Copyright 1992-2002 John Magliacane KD2BD
KD2BD's AOS/LOS code was taken from the Predict source. As the iPhone is a
massive device compared to a PIC, you could probably port Predict without
resorting to the starved memory scenarios of PLAN13. I still live in the old
days when memory was expensive, and the shoe horning of tight code and data
was a respected art. Many of us still wish that were the case while we wait
several minutes for our PCs to boot despite a thousand fold increase in CPU
MIPS.

It's likely one of the Chinese long-range cordless phones that pop up on
e-Bay all the time, even though they are illegal to import or sell in the US
(and probably Canada, as well). They operate in the ham bands and plague
AO-51 users in Europe and Asia, making the bird virtually unusable at
times.....

What a bunch of fun balancing my arrow antenna, thd7a(g) and VC-H1 all
while monitoring AO-51 for SSTV! I struggled at the beginning pushing
the RX button on the VC-H1 when the Robot36 started, but got the hang of
it about half way through.
Good copy of pic from VE3VBA CQ SSTV via AO51. This appears to be the
call of the Canadian Coast Guard! Very cool shot and turned out perfect
with text and all on the VC-H1 screen.
Then I sent a pic of myself, I know... it was all I had in the VC-H1,
not even sure I TXed the radio correctly.
Then copied CQ AO51 de VA??? unable to read this one well.
Then copied an AWESOME pic of some VW vehicles from VA7VW. I can make
out the Canadian flag on the pic, the call and the vehicles, but not the
text.
Is there such a thing as a QSL card for SSTV or no such thing because it
is one way comms?
This was a great first SSTV experience. Now to get a real picture on
the VC-H1 for next pass.
Thanks to all who make this possible! It is a TON of fun! See you all
in 1:20mins here in Michigan for the low 12deg pass and again tomorrow.
If you copied my pic, please let me know!

I believe that the COMPASS-1 team reached a long way to mobilize a volunteer
effort of skilled amateurs to help recover a failing satellite. This is one
more story for the ages; how the Amateur community was trusted by being
provided open control codes, to do what they do best....provide the
diversity of location and the perseverance inherent in the hobby to bring an
orbiting object back to life.
These new "control operators" stand up with those special few who were able
to capture signals from an antenna-less Suitsat-1, 200 miles distant and
report progress to the professional team who had launched the project.
Amateur does not mean un-professional, it just means we don't get paid for
what we enjoy doing.

I'm building one. I'll be ready for a few alpha testers before much longer, I
hope.
So far the only ham radio applications I've seen for the iPhone are a callbook
lookup and a grid square converter, plus perhaps a few Morse code programs.

It's really easy. All you have to do is say something like this:
> If the COMPASS team is looking for someone (or more) radioamateurs
> all around the world in assisting with command and telemetry using our
> amateur ground stations built using our amateur money in my opinion the
> COMPASS-1 scientific organization should donate contributions to AMSAT

You, Domenico, are a jackass. An embarrassment. A black eye to the
greater ham community, and the spirit of exploration, learning and
cooperation that is required by our activity. If you can't help, or
don't want to help, that's perfectly fine. You can stew in your own
bile as much as you like. Some of us (indeed I suspect most of us)
aren't so mean spirited as you, and would find it a great pleasure to
donate our efforts to help our kindred spirits in their orbital
endeavors without extracting the pound of pecuniary flesh that you seem
to require.
Sadly, my own station is probably of limited utility to DK3WN and the
COMPASS-1 team. Here's hoping that someone with the right technical expertise
and more importantly, the proper amateur spirit to step up and provide
help for the COMPASS-1 team.
