Damn Mark,
You Proudly proclaim "Some of us (indeed I suspect most of us)
aren't so mean spirited as you"
And yet you have the nerve to start your tirade with...
"You, Domenico, are a jackass. An embarrassment. A black eye to the
greater ham community"
If that isn't a mean spirited comment I do not know what would qualify as
one.
Maybe you should back up a notch and apologize and debate the issue
on its merits rather than launching a flat out personal attack.
I have seen Domenico do many fine things and bend over backwards
to explain technical issues to others on this board, I may not always
agree with everything he says but without a doubt he is entitled to his
opinion.

I have an old HP 5248M 135Mhz Nixie counter. I am looing for a user
manual or other user guide to see if it is worth messing with. I can't
seem to get it to do anything but interval count.
Thanks

That was amazingly uncalled for--I daresay that you have more in common
with equus asinus than Domenico does.
Domenico is one of those posters whose contributions to this mailing list
are good enough to keep, for further education and help down the road.
He is most certainly not an embarrassment, given his time and knowledge
to the ham community.
So he has taken a position that obviously you do not agree with. Fine--
explain WHY you think he is wrong. Logic and reason, tact and poise will
keep the signal to noise ratio high in this discussion, and lower the heat
to light ratio, which is currently sorely out of balance.

Congrats to Armando, N8IGJ for his astronomical accomplishment. . . . please
see his post . . . . it takes a great deal of patience to duplicate his
accomplishment . . .I like the marriage of two hobbies . . . . I probably have
as many telescopes as I do radios (XYL says too many) . . . a good pair of
binoculars is probably the best instrument for someone who is not an
accomplished stargazer . . . The ISS is routinely about a magnitude +1 and is
a great sight . . . . the Iridium flares are also something I entertain my
neighbors with . . . . google : heavens-above for a good site . . . .
thanks Armando and great seeing to you . . . . Yes there is a lot of stuff up
there . . . more than most people realize . . . . astronomy and satellites :
a great combination

Geeze...you engineering/techie guys sure know how to take romanticism out of
amateur radio...

I'll plug both sets of keps in and see how they look.
Of course, the original claim is still "out there," pardon the pun:
Astronomers and NASA says that we CAN see - under ideal conditions - some sats
as they pass overhead. I just need those beautiful weather conditions and
sunset and pass data to all align themselves to try again.
THANK YOU for this "Soyuz booster" info though...fascinating stuff...

I would also like to add my 2 cents worth to the mix; I hope to have my
system set up soon and when I do I hope to be able to assist the COMPASS
folks in any way I can.
We should be embracing this and other projects, and there are a few more,
that add to our general knowledge and to our hobby.
Anything I can do from here?

You're most welcome!
I've just added Gateway volumes 4, 5 and 6. That makes:
Gateway Vol 2, starting Aug 20, 1985
Gateway Vol 3, starting Aug 22, 1986
Gateway Vol 4, starting Sep 25, 1987
Gateway Vol 5, starting Sep 16, 1988
Gateway Vol 6, starting Sep 22, 1989 and ending Feb 16, 1990, when it
merged with QEX.
I know I'm missing a few issues of both ASR and Gateway. If anyone
happens to have them, please make them available!
I don't have Gateway vol 1. I probably threw away my paper copies a
while ago because it's on the ARRL CD-ROM with the proceedings of the
first four digital communications conferences.
Enjoy. 73,
Phil

A bit off-topic, but has anyone considered writing an application for
the iPhone that spits out position reports to the APRS internet
gateways? It would make a phone self-tracking.
