Does anyone know if any of these tapes are still around ?
I've heard bits and pieces, but I've always wondered if I ever actually
made it through the brief pile-ups and into his audio log ...
I know I heard him on several passes and called him back, I was mobile.
Seems the first pass or two, it was not that busy - I heard more acks later.

Owen lives here in Huntsville (most of the time) and I've met him
on several occasions, but never wanted to trouble him with such vanity.

Perhaps some transcript or call-sign log was created ...
Perhaps the publisher has some copies still for sale ...
Sure would be neat if in fact I could find myself in the audio.
Those were exciting times, I wish I could better recall . .. . .. . ..
Thanks /;^)

Ha !

To my best knowledge the 9k6 mode is new (though std for the D700).
Certainly interesting to see the results of this new mode.

I assume UNPROTO settings will be the same as for 1k2 APRS
(Kenneth, can you confirm ?)

Anyway, I will first monitor the downlink, see if the BBS will be
on and/or APRS and/or 'plain' packet.

Henk, PA3GUO

---------------------------------------------------------------------

---December 1-5--in addition to school contacts and APRS digi operations, we
plan to configure the radio system for
cross band repeater operations. This will utilize the standard U/V operations
in low power mode.
---December 7-12 we will run a test of 9600 baud packet operations on the
simplex frequency 145.825 MHz.
---Given that PCSAT should be in full sun starting December 9, December 14-19
we will switch to 1200 baud packet on
145.825 to support double hop opportunities.
---And at times, especially during the weekends, you might see some SSTV
operations if the crew is available.

I've misplaced my IC-910 manual, and I need pin numbers for the 8 pin
ICC-1 to connect my radio to my computer sound card so I can use MixW.

I can read the pin numbers. One of them must be ground, and the
other pin number for output to the sound card...

I see that Apex Software is selling, amongst other things, GPREDICT on e-bay.
Does this conflict with anyone's GPL license?

For good performance, some sort of media-access control (MAC)
protocol is required. Time-slotted protocols have a lot to
be said for them, although some have suggested using a CDMA
protocol. You could create a system that assigns time slots
to active ground stations. But, if these stations are generating
very bursty traffic, like voice, a lot of the uplink bandwidth
may be wasted. In general, I think this is what I call a "hard
problem" (i.e., we don't know how to solve it [yet], and
perhaps nobody else does either).

> So, this is what I was talking about when I suggested, as

I think this is a great idea.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, all development work on
the Eagle and the ACP ceased several months ago. The
Microwave Engineering Project (MEP) is or might become, in
some vague sense, a terrestrial variant of the ACP.

<http://www.delmarnorth.com/microwave/>

I am hopeful that at least some of the work on the MEP
will be applicable to the ACP.

The team developing the ACP ground station made pretty much
everything they wrote freely available online. [What a
concept!} Unfortunately, they didn't get all that far before
work ceased. See the ACP ground station Web site:

No. The GPL has no restrictions on packaging and reselling software *as long
as you make the source code available*.
If they don't include at least a link to the source they're in violation,
otherwise they're OK.

I realise the legal aspect but have been to several times by software authors
not to charge more than, say, $5 to cover media costs.
I guess anyone who pays $20+ for something he can get free is a bit of a fool.

Is there a possibility that AO-51 can be configured for SSTV mode again?
That was tons of fun...and I know there are others that ALSO had fun with
it.

I've already finished the schedule and had it reviewed and approved by the
committee, I just haven't gotten it posted yet. There was one other request
for more SSTV, so I'll put yours with it and we'll run it in January. I hope
that's not too long of a wait!

I assumed it's same as 1200, and till otherwise noted, my sgate is

it to use this new config for ariss, then set it back when it's done.

Perhaps an email to both the ARRL and WA2DHF (Producer) might be worth a
try. I can tell you (with regard to Tape #1 Side "A") that W7ID, K0RZ, KQ5D
(YL?) and WA1JXN were the first 4 callers with great signals although he only
responded to the WA1 station.

Hah! You'll get no argument from me on that point.
Now if the repackager adds something to it, like a nice "HOWTO" for setting it
up and running it, and a list of links to other satellite resources, then
they've added some value to it, and (I think) would be justified in charging a
bit more.
I haven't seen the auction, but I'll go look for it.

Hi all
I have just been looking at the various Amsat web sites looking for
information about upcoming amateur satellites and launch dates.
Most of the information I found is quoting satellite completion and lunch
dates that have long passed but the satellites are still on the ground.Dose
anybody know of any more up to date information they may wish to share with
us. I am still supporting my Amsat group here in the UK but news is very scant

Sounds like this could be someone's Master's
or PhD thesis then.

Anyway, at the risk of looking silly, which I'm always in
danger of, it might be fun to cook
up something that's 'almost good enough.'.

I'm reminded a little of the ham radio HF nets, where net
control calls out for 'callsign district 0', 'callsign district 1',
Reserve a regular slot for 'check-ins' and then the satellite
puts out a call for 'everyone to check in. If too
many come in, then it asks for 'district 0', and if that's still too
many, it thins it down even further. (Though somehow
we'd need a way to detect a pileup versus noise. Hmm.)

Once you get a 'check-in packet' in, it then assigns you
a slot to use, and your data would be 'here's my packet,
and I'd also like to send another XX ticks from now'.

Give priority to packets farther in the future, so as
the system overloads, a large number of low bandwidth users
keep going.

If you miss your slot, you lose, and have to check
in again.
