Hi guys,
Just a clarification... these ebay sellers are NOT the software
authors. I am the author of several GPL software that has ended in
the claws of these ebay scammers. I have never charged for my
ham radio software and I will never do. It has always been available for
free download.
While what these ebay scammers do is not illegal I strongly question
their motives and business moral. The "product description" is a
complete ripoff from my websites. This includes the screen shots. The
only difference is that they have been altered to remove any traces of
the original software name and authors. These scammers don't contribute
anything back to the software development. They don't even provide
proper customer support as they promise on ebay; people end up sending
me emails requesting my help since they paid for the software... Very
encouraging...
The reason that people are willing to pay $20+ is because they don't
know what they are buying and they don't know that they can download it
for free. What makes it even more pathetic is that it would take much
less time to download the software than to to complete an ebay
transaction.
What's puzzling me is all these 99.9% AAAAA++++++ feedback the
ebay scammers receive. Surely something is not right on ebay.

Well, I've had the chance of inspecting one of these CDROMs. The only
"added value" I saw was an installer script that unpacked a ZIP file. I
don't know how much added value that is... No, what I would call added
value is if they would take my source code and build a windows
executable themselves and take care of the windows port. But of course
they don't do it. Consequently, what they are selling on ebay now is
way out of date compared to latest releases, since I have stopped
making windows versions.

Hi, Alex, nice to hear from you.
Thanks for clearing up exactly what these guys provide. I checked your home
page for GPredict (which I use and enjoy!) and noticed you state the Windoze
version is out-of-date. Yep, eBay is eBay, and as always Caveat Emptor!
Thanks for providing your software!

I'm just about to get started in working satellites and debating between two
rig options: Kenwood TS2000X and the Icom 910H. I already have an HF rig
(Icom 756Pro-3) so don't really need the HF features of the TS2000X but
otherwise it seems very comparable to the 910H especially when you consider
that all the options for the 910H are standard in the TS9000X. Price-wise,
they both seem to be in the same ballpark (when you add most options to the
910H). If you were just getting starting out in satellites, which rig would
you choose? Thanks, Gordon NW7D

Here's a short blurb including a launch date for SumbandillaSat. The reader
comments at the end of the article don't paint a rosy picture unfortunately.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the clarification. I took a look at their eBay site, and the big
clue to their scam-ness is how much space they take up explaining that they
are legit. A sure sign of trouble...

Alan,
have a look at http://www.dd1us.de, menu item "sounds from space", there
is (amongst lots of others) a STS-9 recording of Dec 4th 1983.

I'd like to thank Tim for bringing up the project on AMSAT-BB.
One of the stated intentions of MEP is to continue the digital ground station
work that was begun in support of ACP. While MEP is intended to be deployed as
a terrestrial system, the model is based off of ACP.
We preserve the idea of a multiple access payload in the "groundsat",
which?will be a mountaintop?repeater instead of in orbit.?We are using?the
same bands, with the only difference being a shift off the satellite sub-
bands. We have taken advantage of a greatly improved link budget by orienting
the system to high-definition video for terrestrial use.
For satellite use, we would be able to support some number of voice channels,
depending on the payload.
We are open invitation and welcome anyone at any level who would like to
participate.
Our current phase is exploratory. We're beginning to transition to analyzing
requirements, and then we'll design, implement, test and verify.

For what it's worth... the issue of high-gain antenna pointing
among terrestrial users is being taken care of with an APRS
packet that will indicate to everyone on the net, where each
person's microwave antenna is pointing live. This can allow for
automatic antenna tracking during terrestrial ops. See
