Hi Bob and all,
I suppose the only reason why The Simpletons is outrunning Gunsmoke is
support from the ratings in turn supported by population demographics and
a much wider audience all things considered. By that I mean a larger
population, more TV sets per household (back then there were plenty who
didn't even have TV) and... well... simple junk for simple minds.
Gunsmoke was the draw (double enendre?) that killed every other show in
that time slot and everyone I know watched it faithfully. Even among the
kids it was immensely popular to the point when I was in school our music
teacher Mr. Dillon suffered the slings and arrows of a bunch of stiff
legged kids mimicing that Oklahoma accent saying "Meesteer Deelin" until
he went off like a Colt Peacemaker. (;->)
