Hi Pete and all,
We ran out of thread because we ran out of ideas, then there are so many
wonderful classic TV shows they'll pop up from time to time like M*U*S*H,
Hardships Of The Ididerod. (sp?) Is it any wonder there was a great anti
war sentiment in the show when you consider it was launched in 1972? It
could have been titled Korea 2 since all they did was move the location a
bit to the southeast, same firkin war.
OK, Black Sheep Squadron based on the book by Greg Boyngton, screenplay
by Stephan J. Calnnell noted for his realism, directed by Alex Beaton and
Robert Conrad who also starred as Boyngton just may explain a few things.
Well, one mystery, John Laroquette ended up as a bumbling lawyer on Night
Court, a complete reversal of character.
Silent Service is dim in my memory being like so many other great BBC
productions it was shown on PBS which is not one of my favorite networks.
Maybe you remember what Billy Joel had to say about channel 13? Funny
thing, I remember the early years when it was the most difficult to
receive, snowy at best and as WNET the flagship of National Educational
Television the least popular in the New York market. Time marches on and
signals improve, still I watch infrequently with far better programming
available but once in a while I'll catch one of the "Britcoms" that beat
the heck out of American junk.
Let's see who remembers one of my lesser known favorites, Victory At Sea.
