Forecast Discussion

A cold front that brought mixed precipitation types overnight will continue to slide off shore this morning allowing for remaining snow showers to taper off. In its place, Canadian high pressure will build in from the north allowing for drier air to move in and allowing for winds to trend downward. Looking at current IR satellites and observations around New England, there are still plenty of low level clouds blanketing the northeast. A dry line is evident along the US-Canadian border which will slowly be sliding southeast this morning. So, in the meantime, clouds will linger keeping fog this morning before trending towards afternoon clearing. Lower summits may hold onto clouds as an undercast sets up around the summit but as drier air continues to move in, even these clouds should dissipate. Despite the ample sunshine though, the northerly flow will keep highs cold with todays highs already occurring before sunrise. Overnight, the high builds across Canada as a low begins to move north along a frontal boundary offshore. High clouds will begin to move in overnight which will thicken and lower a bit on Sunday and a few snow showers may brush the state in the afternoon as the low slides by.
