Forecast Discussion
Departing high pressure created a blocking pattern yesterday that stalled the expected cold front. This allowed drier air to slot in for the overnight and early morning hours. So yesterdays forecast got stalled for 12 hours. So now, the cold front that was expected overnight will move through this morning bringing a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow as it sweeps through. This front will return fog to the summits and allow temperatures to fall today. The front will then stall off shore as an area of low pressure strengthens and moves up from the Ohio River Valley. The low will allow snow this afternoon as an associated warm front starts to move north. Temperatures will warm overnight in response to the warm front but should remain low enough for just snow. Tomorrow though, temperatures will approach freezing once again allowing snow to mix with some sleet and possible freezing rain. But snow will end the day tomorrow as a cold front passes with the exiting low lowering temperatures once again. NWS has issued a winter storm warning for southern Coos County from 7 pm EST today until 7 pm EST Wednesday. Since no other statements are needed to be issued independently, I will carry this wording for the higher terrain as well. Winds will begin a downward trend today as the low passes then build once again tomorrow as the low exits. With temperatures remaining fairly mild, wind chills will be reasonable for this time of year. Wind chills will be 5-15 above falling to 0-10 below into the night before rising to 0-10 above for tomorrow.
