Forecast Discussion
Low pressure that brought a mixture of rain snow and ice to the summits is quickly moving into the Canadian Maritimes. High pressure has been building, and the summits have been in and out of the clouds for much of the night. A cold front passage dropped temperatures into the single digits, after being in the low 30s for part of the day. The intense pressure gradient caused wind speeds to increase swiftly and significantly, with gusts exceeding the century mark on many occasions. However, high winds will not be part of the forecast, as high pressure crests the region today, providing mostly clear and sunny skies and moderating temperatures through the forecast period. Winds will remain relatively calm, and temperatures will dip to the mid teens overnight. Tomorrow, a cold front will approach the region, but remain stalled just to the west, as a large area of low pressure begins to organize near the Gulf States. This will increase cloudiness overnight into tomorrow. As the high pressure slides to the east, winds will take on a southerly component, warming temperatures into the mid twenties tomorrow. As temperatures continue to warm, and winds continue to diminish, wind chills will be improving throughout the forecast period.
