Hi Michael,
Thanks for sharing how you celebrated Christmas!
The KrumKake iron is sort of like a waffle iron except it sqeezes the
batter flat and the kake (cookie) bakes in 30 seconds. Then you quickly
remove it from the iron and roll it on a cylender or cone. When the kake
cool you can fill them with whipped cream, or custard or icecream - or
eat as they come out.
The Germans and Italians have recipes also.
This is called "a Norwegian Favoarite"
2/3 stick butter (5 tablespoons)
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 cup general purpose flour
Melt butter carefully.
Mix in the sugar, stirring well.
Aff 2 eggs using mixer until light yellow colored.
(ooops - that was supposed to be Add 2 eggs. :-) )
Add milk and flour until smooth.
Add flavoring - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract, or lemon
flavoring. I use cardemon which is a traditional Norwegian flavoring.
Then use one tablespoon batter for each kake. I got 29 !
I used to have a waffle iron that made waffles on one side or turn the
grids and make krumkake. But it finally gave up so our son gave us a new
iron.
Hope this gives you and idea what they are like!
Best wishes for 2008 Happy New Year.
Sara
