Hello Everyone on the YL Thread...
This is the January 2008 Report as I sees it from my locale
at VE3WBZ ... Jackson's Point,Ontario,CANADA.
The first week of January saw nice skating on the rink,
in fact, ready New Years day, as we entertained our friends.
ice was great...got in some ice hockey practice on the rink
and even heard whispers of a hockey game between my nehpew
Geoffrey and of all people...my wife...cuz Geoff didn't her
Brasilian sweater a NHL type hockey sweater...and that was it
WAR on ICE!.
Well as mentioned that was the first few days....then BOOM
in came a heatwave.... At the same time, areas of the USA
were plunged into our winter, and lots of blackouts...but
the skating rink has suffered...and with tempertures at 11c
well it is gone!
Ice fishing on Lake Simcoe is suspended...but ...mmmm...well
we've had numerous idiots on snow machine drop through the
ice and perish in the cold waters...leaving only a hole
where they left this world.
The middle to the end of the month, came one night with all
the elements off the lake < not frozen> and our temperatures
plunged to -24c and even colder depending on where you call
home. Made my 24/7 job of firewood stuffing in the fire
appreciate the old days of steamers when they put wood into
the boiler fires.
Bad news...TV-wise...the 42" plasma developed a vertical black
line...started flashing in and out, and then went solid ... so
tired to find the bill..discovery after 2 years, in has
faded < thermo-paper > and a call to the company got no
where but an answering service ... Called the company who
sold it to me...and guess what they gave me, a in store cash
bonus card. Not sure if any other store would do that, but
I expected to hear too bad...and that would have me looking
for a repair store that works on this brand.
I also finished up the New Years turkey too ... and from
January 20th..onwards...well I have some great turkey soup.
Robbie Burns Day : January 25th: Our local Legion in Sutton
had a dinner, and it was well attended ... only problem was
held January 19th ...??? My mother "only" celebrated
Robbie's birthday on his day...no other time. I got me
"haggis" << in the YL Cookbook 1995 >> and had my nips
and tatties all ready with the homemade soup...and enjoyed
the dinner.
SARA AB7PS ... I checked Maria's inside plants, as per your
request ... yp still alive..but cold. Miracle with me
looking after them.
As mentioned before, I had tried to sign into the Yahoo
YL Net that was setup in the Internet. But I had not been
in there for so long...and my account was deleted, and I
can not use what I had before...even though they recognize
my data ...Go figure that one out? .... after emails with
Yahoo..etc and not going anywhere...I regret I will be
withdrawing from that forum...as I can not signin the
numbers of times the account "demands" so the only
thing I have left is being a subscriber to the net...
which is ..mmmmm
January went out with some interesting WX ... We had a
temp of 10c here at the lake, and then came a rain,
and after that ...the temps went down like the stockmarket
and a real chilly wind came in 93kmph here and the
highest reading in Ontario was 126kmph near lake erie.
Wind chill value made -10c feel like -21c ... and that
leads to today where the winds are gone..it feels warmer
and thankfully the sun is out ...so we can smile :)
Maria, finally got the laptop going in Brasil, preloaded
by me with stuff so we could chat and webcam and things
so it was nice to see everyone in the house in Brasil.
WX there ... well it has been cool for them...lots of
rain... so I hope in a few days she'll get better WX
then the last 15 days.
So .. that pretty well takes care of the month of January 2008
in my life. See you all again in February 2008, where
for the first time, I will be trying two week reports to
net ... if anything to report.
