>Hello Everyone,

Good Morning Shirl ... Hope you feel better and all
is going better for you...

>I followed along on the bulletins posted to (now I forget)
>Future (I think) and found it so interesting to read about
>how it was in the past for getting a radio licence and the
>knowledge required.

Here in CANADA, one sort of studied... morse code to 12wpm
sending and receving, studied diagrams and theory and the
exam was two part, the code, and then the written and oral
explaination of diagrams...none of this true and false
stuff .... and lots of really nice people , who should
have been given a licence should of been allowed on
even if they didn't know the code or they froze up.

>I have always known it was a much more difficult procedure
>and required a lot of knowledge in the technical field then,
>and have always classed myself as way down the chain as
>with-out all the skill, and tech knowledge we just have to
>know that is the case.
>
>I am just a communication operator, and enjoy every minute
>of keyboard and voice contacts.

I ..but ..only can agree with you Shirl, and I have
a great on-air admission to recall one evening on my
TV show, when a ham called in to congradulate me on
passing my exam ...after he had challenged me... I told
him I saw no shame as some do in my Basic Qualification.
Advanced only has a few perks, and I am not really
interested in having a repeater in my home or otherwise.

I told him I was but only a happy Appliance Operator...and
when I did get 5wpm to go with Basic...well...that did
open the door to a whole new modern abbreviated language
of cw ...which to this day I have never tried, as I
perfer straight language ...long...as I had tried to
learn as a SWL .

So with all these new updates...and now even dropping
morse as a requirement...I am happy new folks are in
there doing their thing...even if I don't exactly agree
to it all ... and all they're rantings over this and
that and the old days..Well from a Amateur Log book
of a ceased close friend 1919 XHC was the call in
CANADA I enjoyed his enterys...which were REAL
ham radio ... HAMS collectively leading to foundations
such as enjoyed to a Ham today that was known back
then as 9RB and today....only has one last link to
ham radio...it's SW frequency... THAT was HAM RADIO
not what these wannabees...try to claim...as they
were not even there when real things were being done.

All these old timers...most 99% now gone...only wanted
progress. XHC ..later CHC ...always wanted the best
for all...and like you enjoyed the on-air chats in AM
in his day..and enjoyed SWLs listeniing along and
flooding his mailbox with their comments <read them>.

He went from Spark gap...to AM...to SSB and always wanted
people to have a chance and also laid enough hints to
the power to be to allow non-CW operators on the air
etc .... cuz he worked hard to build his..test it
and keep going thru the wars.

What you echo... was what I gained from knowing these
people and their decendents who carry on the same way.
YOU are...in my view right Shirl.

>The discussion should be a lesson for some other packeteers
>on how to stay civil and still have a fair say.

Agreed. I got into it with a packeteer on here because I
was posting to YL@WW as an SB instead of SP ... and it
went from there, being abused...as the exchanges became
bitter and gutter..and YES Shirl I too got dragged down
the drain. Nowadays...I laugh at the character and
his expressed opinions that are the fact...and anyone he
disagrees with as being QRM ... to which threats etc...

We need our friendly Good Witch of the YL Net to flyover
with a potion to bring about your wish.

>SARA AB7PS I do wish you could get yourself set up with a
>system that allowed you to finish what you are doing on
>packet - I'm sure it must be very annoying, but not near
>as bad as being with-out a kitchen for 7 months as your
>son and Daughter-in-law have been.
>Did it get finished for Easter?

I think what sara does..is logon and with her Winpack
auto downloading the day's fare of postings. But, as
sara goes into the program to read and prepare returns
her local on-air BBS might sense the long pause..no
activity from AB7PS..and log her off with the disconnect.

That happens to me a lot when I log a message to reply to
and I do it, leaving my connection still on hold to BALBBS.

I always get the disconnect when I get the packt program
going...always happens... there is a timer <g>...

As for the kitchen .. well..if I was the kids and Easter
coming and no kitchen...mmmm....fond memorys of mum's
kitchen ... <giggle> ...I think you see my take.

Yepper.. Hey mum...our kitchen isn't ready yet.
And mum..would say...oh no..well come on over....

OOPs..reminds me..today is treat day up at the Drugstore
and where I do my standup monologue...and of course I
alsoways ask a employee to say hello to her mum...who
knows me vry well from my show...and I did it enough
to get a nice Lemon square cake to take home and enjoy
< giggle > <chuckle> < blink of an eye... bad boy eh?>

Yep...even got a nice thank you letter for "Rose" to give
that employee..that should net me another "cake".

>ZL1ABS MICHAEL The recipe information and cooking hints
>you posted are very interesting - Well I thought so anyhow.
>I hope NZ is not too cold at present - Tasmania is not to
>good today, a couple of thunderstorms have switched us
>from very hot to very cool in about 48hrs.

Thanks for again the reminder Shirl..I have to send some
postings to Michael and mmmm..might post to YL@WW for
all which goes with Michael's suggestions too...that
he might now have from the 1995 yl cookbook.

AND...we are in the process of deadline now for a 2008
update....final translation of some native Brasilian
foods like the green cake maria posted last year, that
now who tried encouraged her to make the translations.

>PETER VE3WBZ I'm not keeping up to the one bull a month as
>well as you I don't think, but I am trying. I hope things
>are going better in Brazil with the health problems.

Shirl... I know you are trying. My intent, was to
attract old participants and new as well.... And yes
I know who is suffering and not... I need not mention
names or calls to know a few have had hospital visits
and a few are joint husband and wife participants and
even missed in other topics @ww such as humour
where David is badly missed..as well other topic@ww
where the witch is so fondly remembered.

YES I miss my family..as they have like yourself, become.

I have some on my MSN..and every once and a while..I
do text them a hello. Most of the time...I feel like
but am afraid..in case I am bothering them.

As for Maria's mother...things have stablized. I sent
some supplies in the start of the month, and with
the owner of the drugstore helping me...they have
helped. I also told Maria, that if she wanted
to stay on in Brasil...I would understand.

He mother... told her... her place was with me.
That is why this mother-in-law story is a great
example of what it should be...rather then what
I see around me.

>ANGELA I think it was you I saw a bull from, and it read
>as though you and Peter are trying to give us a bit of a
>mystery????

Not I shirl .... <g>

>
>Nice to have some action and always good to read other
>topic postings and nice to see the chatting without attack
>hi hi.

Yes...agreed. I enjoyed the daily fare, and as well the
end of the month postings looking back on the month. Just
liked it... and I always wondered if everyone felt the
same way.

Of course I always reply..or try to all postings.

>Almost meal time for me so must say bye to all, and sorry
>for the senior moment to start with.

Ok Shirl ... you take care..and don't worry about those
"huh" ..oh yeah..me too. I think we're all getting older
and things are breakig down, and oh well 7 more visits
to the dr yank-n-pull ...and all those specialists and
well it never seems to end.

Thank you for helping me sort thru all this... I hope
by my posting back to you and everyone...that it leaves
all with a smile and a chuckle.

I have to get dressed..and old Rsuty needs to have some
of his needs attended since he raided the fridge this
morning... and of course "treat day" at the store...so
note in had to Rose...hee hee...well that outcome is
to be realized.

Regards to all ... Thank you for keeping the net going
and heres to all and new participants...that are as always
welcome... God Bless and keep you all.
